Destrian sighed and closed his eyes briefly, reminding himself to be patient. She was doing better than he could've expected, but he needed more. "I know," he replied, managing to soften his voice. He shifted suddenly, removing the stool he had been sitting on so that he could sit on the floor of her cell, effectively lowering himself to her level, "I want you to think of me as someone else...as Des. Destrian hurts you. Des is kind to you. Just like Eve and Before Eve," he studied her carefully, "Can you do that? Can you tell Des about Before Eve?" he asked.

Eve watched him move to sit on her level, face to face with her. This wasn't a normal behavior for him either, she observed. "Des," she said slowly, as if mulling over what he had said. That made sense then. Destrian would never sit on the ground with her or ask her to talk about her past or bring her treats. Des must be different. Eve glanced around, seemingly to make sure no one would overhear them, then leaned toward him slightly. Her voice, when she spoke, was no more than a whisper, "The before-Eve was named Isadora. She was the Queen of Nethilor."

Destrian's face remained expressionless, but his eyes gave away his utter shock over the revelation. He knew there was corruption within Raevaryn; what kingdom didn't? But this...this was downright heinous. News like this would no doubt trigger an all out war with Nethilor. What was Alister thinking? Destrian leaned back and clenched his jaw, mind reeling. He suddenly very much regretted getting so curious. He was no rebel and he never had intentions of getting so involved. But he had to tell Ari.
"Thank you for telling me that, Eve," he said quietly, feeling pity for the woman in his cold heart. He continued to stare at her, as though he couldn't tear his gaze away, "Do you remember Isadora's family? What do they think happened to her?" he couldn't help but ask.

Eve looked back at him for a few moments, but she was unable to maintain the eye contact for a long period of time and glanced away, focusing instead on the scuff marks around the toe of his boot. She was aware of the weight of his gaze still on her though. In response to his thanks, she simply nodded. "Her family... A husband and a daughter. The king said they think she's dead. He said the mage made everyone think she's dead," Eve said, her voice still just a whisper. Briefly, her eyes flicked back to him, seeming to want to assess how he reacted to this information.

Destrian's jaw tensed in response. Bram. He was beginning to develop a deep mistrust of the mage above all others. There was something about the power he held that left him feeling disconcerted. He stood up suddenly and gazed down at the broken woman with a sense of resolve, "You've done well, Eve," he praised her, his voice returning to the steady tone, void of emotion, "Until next time." Without another glance, he swept out of the room, locked the door, and disappeared like a shadow down the hall.
