Her explanation did resonate with him on some level, but Xander was a pessimist and blind faith could never align with his beliefs. Sure, karma was a thing. But he saw it on a more physical level. If you steal from someone, you're bound to get your ass kicked. It was easier to see things in black and white in a world as dangerous as his.
"Trust me, nothing good has happened to me in a while," he replied pointedly, pushing his curly locks out of his eyes to focus on her, "I'm not so sure about you yet," he added honestly.
"If you're so in tune with the universe, maybe you should listen to it and get back to me when you figure it out." He turned away dismissively and began to meander down the beach, testing her.

Lennox was teetering on the edge of following him, but as the seconds ticked by, she didn’t move. This boy - whose name she didn’t know - had admitted to doing drugs and called her a bitch at least three times. But then again, the universe always had a reason. It wouldn’t have pointed her in his direction otherwise. The signs weren’t strong, though, and they weren’t definitively about him.
What happened next was most likely purely coincidental, but to Lennox, was a direct sign from the universe. The quiet energy ripples that radiated off of him started trailing back, reaching out to her, begging her to follow. She had never seen energy do that before - it didn’t react with the world. It just existed. But his energy wanted her. Or maybe she wanted his energy.
The universe had sensed her questioning and had promptly clarified. She started off after the boy who still did not have a name. The closer she got, the more excited the energy swirled. Just being near him made her feel warm.
“Hey, wait up, don’t be a baby. You didn’t even tell me your name,”. Lennox crossed her arms over her chest. She wanted to touch him again, feel his energy, but touching a stranger that many times in a ten minute span was weird, even for her.

Xander was already grinning with anticipation as he sensed her following his trail. Doing his best to conceal his smugness, he waited until she spoke to abruptly turn around and face her, beaming with 'I told ya so' energy. It felt incredibly good to have someone so wrapped around his finger for no apparent reason, as far as he was concerned. Perhaps his path as a loner was coming to an end.
Then, as though the universe was granting Lennox's wish, he extended a hand for her to shake, "Xander Desmeraux," he replied with a boyish smile, "I suppose your name is not 'bitch'?" he added humorously, clearly in a much better mood than when he'd first shown up at the beach. He'd always been known for his violent mood swings, more so than even the average teenager.

When Xander extended his hand, Lennox wasted no time in grabbing it. This time, a calm tingling sensation started in his fingers and washed over her body, loosening the tension out of her muscles. It was surprising that his energy was so calm now, but was so violent just a few minutes prior.
She pulled her hand away, breaking the contact. His energy was like a drug, and the last thing she wanted to do was go through whatever withdrawal she spent the last couple of days going through. While she had felt other people’s energy, Xander’s energy made her feel what she imagined being high would feel like. If she could hang around Xander, then she could feed off of his energy. And maybe, with her head clear, she could figure exactly what the fuck she could do with her... ability.
Her face twisted into a scowl when he called her a bitch again. “No, it’s Lennox. And you better not call me that again.” She snapped, crossing her arms over her chest.
Ever since Stark disappeared, there had been a void in her life. Maybe Xander could fill it.

"Fair enough, Lennox," he replied, grinning triumphantly as he shoved his hands into his pockets, looking ever so carefree. He wasn't sure if he liked the girl yet, but he liked how she made him feel and that was what was important.
"Anyway, I have to get home in time for dinner. I would invite you, but my mother would interrogate you. Trust me, you don't want that," he insisted. Pushing a hand through his thick, curly hair, he started walking backwards away from her, "How about we meet tomorrow at the Jade Coast Port, near the eastern docks? I have something I want to show you," he told her with a mischievous smirk, moving slowly as he awaited her confirmation.

Lennox narrowed her eyes suspiciously. It irritated her that he automatically assumed she was coming back, but he wasn’t wrong. Besides the fact that wanted another taste of his energy, she was also curious as to what he wanted to show her.
“Maybe, I’ll think about it. If you’re lucky, and I don’t think you are.” Lennox swayed a little, pretending to contemplate. Even though she would probably change her mind several times form now until then, the draw of a surprise would lure her back - she couldn’t resist not knowing.
And without a goodbye, Lennox turned the opposite way and trudged up the beach. He had a mom and dinner to go home to, leaving Lennox wondering what it was like to have those things in your life.
