Alister rose when he heard Evolet's decree, thinking that it was a very fair and impartial decision. The young princess had proven that she could put emotion aside and rule with her head, following reason rather than heart. It was impressive, and for a moment, Alister worried about the future. She could prove to be a formidable opponent when Alaric passed away, but Alister hoped that her youth would make her malleable. And she was still looking for a husband. Perhaps he ought to become more involved in that, to offer her a pairing with a man he knew he could trust. "It has been decided. Wolfgang Van Dam, you have your sentence. Your assets here will be seized and you will be removed from the kingdoms immediately to begin your new life." Alister nodded to his court, "Dismissed."
Evadne felt admiration for Evolet flow through her. She imagined that her mother would have been proud of her, if she could see her now. As the nobles filed from the throne room, Evadne made her way out as well. She would need to gather her things and, of course, gather Sebastian from Nethilor for the journey.

Wolfgang could have dropped to his knees over the relief that flooded him upon Evolet's decision. His surroundings seemed to melt away as he realized his life had been spared, against all odds. He gazed gratefully at the princess, not caring if she hadn't necessarily done it for him. One day, he would make it up to her. Upon Alister's dismissal, the guards ushered Wolfgang out of the throne room to begin his life as an exile.
Alaric leaned back in his seat as he absorbed his daughter's declaration. As much as he felt that he would regret the decision, he was proud of Evolet for her level head and well thought out sentence. Staring after Wolfgang, he finally rose from his seat, "Well done. Let's go home." He cast a lingering look toward Alister before making his way out of the room. His distrust in Raevaryn remained stronger than ever.
