Xander was in an unusually good mood. Lennox was officially on his side and he had an important mission to focus his energy on; saving Bo from whatever mess he'd gotten himself into. With the knowledge provided by Lennox, he was on his way toward Raevaryn Castle to do some reconnaissance and hopefully find and rescue his friend.
With newfound confidence in his gait, he made his way through the familiar Jade Coast Port, nearing the road that would lead him to Raevaryn. For now, the loss of his mother was pushed to the back of his mind, replaced by the success of building his new family. Ignoring any of the familiar faces that crossed his path, he kept his eyes forward as he neared the last few buildings that made up the port.

Amara, clad in an elegant green velvet gown, her dark hair spilling bewitchingly down her shoulders, was sealing a deal with a client at a stall in the port. It was simple coincidence that she looked up at that moment, and Xander's familiar face caught her attention. Hurriedly, she gathered her skirts in her hands, and with a terse word to the man she'd been speaking with, she swept down the road towards the boy. "Xander!" She called out to him. She had been trying to pinpoint him for days. She wasn't entirely sure she had Brogan in her pocket just yet, but she would need to know Xander wouldn't get in the way of her taking over Sahara's operations.

Xander would have ignored the call of his name if not for the fact that he instantly recognized the voice. He halted, pausing momentarily to steel himself before he turned to face Amara. Xander's emotions could turn in an instant, which is exactly what they did when his eyes landed on the young woman he'd never gotten along with. The contentment faded from his eyes, replaced by a guarded look as he anticipated what Amara would have to say. He'd been trying to push thoughts of his mother to the back of his mind, which was proving to be exceedingly difficult.
"Amara," he replied as she caught up to him. She was the one person he'd had to fight for Sahara's attention, which made her an instant rival in his book, "What do you want? I'm busy," he questioned dismissively. If she had condolences, she could save her breath.

Amara saw the instant shift when he turned to face her, and she took a breath, offering him a smile that hid a myriad of intentions. "Busy with what, little man? We both know you aren't running your mother's empire. An errand for Brogan, perhaps?" she mused, keeping the condolences to herself. Xander would know they rang false, but she had to remember that she couldn't arouse suspicion either. She softened her expression, "I hope you know I've been doing my best to handle what your mother left behind. I miss her dearly."

"Everyone does," Xander responded flatly. It was true; Sahara was known and loved by many, and she placed a significant role in the seedy underworld of the kingdoms. With her gone, the future of that lifestyle was at stake.
Amara was right to be careful with her words. Xander had begun to develop somewhat of a talent for reading people, and he was making a point to analyze every single move that Amara made. Fortunately for her, he was left fuming silently at the demeaning nickname she had assigned him, "I have some ventures of my own in the works," he answered vaguely, crossing his arms, "You should know that I will always hold a stake in my mother's business. I have many loyal clients," he reminded her, "I'm not sure you're capable of running things on your own. Maybe you should ask Brogan for help," he suggested, clearly trying to take a stab back at her.

Amara didn't react to his barbs, but he was a concern. True enough, he was beloved by many in the business because of who his mother was. But he was also young. Amara had been around as an active player longer, and she had more weight to throw around. If Xander had been watching at all, he would know that she had been putting in tireless footwork and was seeing results and loyalty. "Oh, you haven't spoken to Brogan yet? He and I are working together to get to the bottom of who put a target on your mother's back." Amara smiled sweetly at him, but it was clear. She wanted Xander to think she had Brogan in her pocket.

Xander visibly faltered as she mentioned her partnership with Brogan, feeling his trust in the man start to diminish. Brogan had promised to help him find the murderers, but Xander had no interest in working with Amara. His eyes narrowed with resolve as he realized he didn't need help from either of them. He only wanted people he could trust at his side, and he was succeeding in building those relationships. Xander had no doubt that he would get his revenge, "I doubt you'll have much time considering the business endeavors you'll be taking on. Don't worry, though. I'm already working on it. Whoever they are, they will pay," he promised her, the depth of his hatred reflecting clearly in his eyes.

"We should be working together, Xander. We all want the same thing. After all, she was well loved b y the three of us." Amara arched an eyebrow at Xander. If the boy was feeling isolated from Brogan, that served her well. The further Xander was pushed from his inheritance, the more secure her position would be.

Xander considered her words, though his instincts were telling him not to trust her. Even if he did decide to have faith in Amara and Brogan, he was tired of being under the thumb of people who had treated him like a helpless kid his entire life. He was on a new path now. "Tell me if you learn anything new and I will do the same," he replied decidedly, "I have a friend waiting on me." He regarded Amara with a dubious look before turning away without another word, heading for the path that would lead him to Raevaryn castle.
