Nova feigned indifference, though her heart rate spiked as the captain appeared to tried to get under her skin. Bitch. She resisted the urge to turn her glare upon the woman and remained similarly focused on the horizon, "Is that so?" she mused, "I wonder why he wasn't happy before," she added, casually suggesting that Attila didn't exactly radiate joy.
She made no mention of her own feelings, not one to get caught up in girl talk, especially when she was particularly distrustful of everyone around her at the moment, "I'll alert you to any obstacles," she added, "Though I'm sure you are perfectly capable of handling such things yourself."

Attila grinned as Nova responded with a concealed snarky remark. Good, the girl could hold her own. Not that Attila had doubted that, but it was still nice to see it. "Probably because he crushes people's bones for a living, at my discretion. That sort of work stays with you. Maybe you should ask him about it," She lightly guided the helm as they sailed, setting their course. Out ahead of them, Attila knew her pet, a terror-inspiring kraken, was waiting for them to catch up. Beastie was certainly an asset when it came to encountering unexpected problems.
"Did you find anything on the island last time you were here?" She inquired, unaware that at the very moment, a very valuable mermaid was trying to lure two of her sailors to their deaths.

Ask him about it? Nova had witnessed it first hand. She didn't feel pity for Saoul over his job, and she didn't think Saoul would appreciate being pitied at all. Maybe she would discuss it with him, but not in the way that Attila was suggesting.
Deciding to ignore the captain's holier than thou comments, Nova shook her head slightly, "Nothing of worth. That's why it's considered a hidden treasure, no? It hasn't been found yet. That's our job. The adventure of it is that we don't know what's out there,"

Attila arched an eyebrow at Nova's attitude, but let it slide. "And there's nothing better than that," Attila grinned, in far too good a mood out on the open sea. The challenge was everything to her, the conquering of the unknown left her more exhilarated than anything or anyone else in the world. She fell silent for some time as they Marauder glided through the waters, her eyes on the clouds on the horizon. Of all of the things the captain loved about sailing, there was one thing she loathed, and that was a storm. "Where are you from Nova?" she broke the silence eventually, though her eyes did not stray from the waters. "And how did you come to live this life?"

Nova closed her eyes and inhaled the smell of the approaching storm. Contrary to Attila, she loved storms. While others were left disoriented, Nova could navigate through the dark clouds and surging seas without missing a beat, "The island I was born on was small, poor, and insignificant. I barely made it out of there alive; the rest of my family weren't as lucky," she replied without emotion. She had only the vaguest memories of her past life and she had learned long ago not to dwell on such things. Independence and an unwavering belief in herself was all that mattered now. Or so she tried to tell herself, "I knew I belonged on the sea. And a captain saw my potential, just as you have,"

If one did not want pity, the best person to speak to was to Attila. The woman wasn't the pitying type. "I am also from a small, poor island. Though, it was peaceful there. I just longed for more than the safe life my family led. I haven't been back since I left," Attila confided, and she felt the slightest twinge of guilt. Her family had all been lovely, had been kind and warm. But going back now, after so many years, would feel strange. "I send them money, they know I'm well. That should be enough for all of us."
