Terrowin hadn't stopped crying in the days following Wolfgang's capture. Her heart was completely broken, and she was devastated at what had happened. People had lost their lives, had lost loved ones. There had been terror and hurt and betrayal. And she missed him. Oh, how she ached to hold him in her arms. Was he even still alive? She had to know. And so, Terrowin had pried herself from Wolfgang's chambers where she'd been hiding, and was searching the castle for someone, anyone to tell her what had happened. And if he was alive, she wanted to see him. Her wanderings led her to one of the parlors. Being new to the castle, Terrowin was turned around. She had no idea where she was, or how to get back to Wolfgang's room even if she wanted to. And she stood out, too. Her dress was not as finely crafted as a noble woman's would be, and she wore no makeup, nor did she have her blonde hair done in a fancy way. Her hands were not soft- they were weathered and calloused from work on her farm. The girl just looked lost.

The events of the wedding ceremony hadn't shaken Bram as they had most people. To tell the truth, he really didn't care much about what had happened. His thoughts of late had been consumed of Blythe and her betrayal, and right now, all he really wanted was for someone to hurt like he was hurting. As he'd discovered at the wedding, seeing others hurting and scared was all that really made him feel anything but his own pain at the moment, and he wanted to feel something other than that.
He'd noticed Terrowin a few minutes ago. The girl really did stick out like a sore thumb, different from the other women of the castle. He stuck out too, he knew, and he sensed a sort of kinship with her for that reason. Beyond that though, she was clearly lost. It was easy enough to follow her without her noticing, and even if he she had, he could have used his magic to change that.
As she entered the parlor room, he decided it was time to show himself. He walked toward the entryway and leaned in, propping one hand on the door frame. "Do you need help?" He asked casually.

Terrowin looked up at the voice and she felt relief flow through her. "Y-yes." She hesitated, wondering if she would be judged for being Wolfgang's lover. The two of them had not been public, since he'd still been engaged to Evolet. She recognized Bram as someone of importance at court, close to the king. "I need to know... Wolfgang was my friend. Was he killed after the- after the massacre?" She could hardly say the words. She stared at Bram with wide, innocent blue eyes soft with tears.

Bram did a good job of concealing his dark thoughts from notice, but did there still seem to be something slightly off about him. In general, he tended to be an aloof person. "No, he wasn't killed. He was captured and locked in the dungeons to await trial or punishment or... Whatever the king deems fair, honestly." Bram crossed his arms, taking in the softness, the innocence of her, and decided he liked what he saw. Besides, if she was a friend of Wolfgang's, people wouldn't be upset if they ever found out what he planned to do to her.

Terrowin was too consumed by grief to notice anything off about Bram. Had she been her normal self, her guard would be up and Bram wouldn't have such easy prey. But she felt broken right now, and she needed someone to trust. "Can you take me to see him, please? I know what you must think of him. Of me, even, for caring about him despite what he is. He was trying everything to cure it. I don't know why he turned, it wasn't a full moon. Something is terribly wrong, and I don't want him to be alone and scared. Can I please see him?"

This was too easy; she was asking him to take her to the dungeons. It would be simple enough to lead her down and lock her up, and then she would be a perfect outlet for his anger. He made the pretense of hesitating. "Well... I really shouldn't, but maybe just for a minute. Follow me." He moved from the doorway and began walking down the hall toward the dungeons, turning to making sure that she had followed.

Terrowin felt another wave of relief rush over her. She would never have guessed that she'd be in danger. As they descended into the dungeons, Terrowin wrung her hands, unable to wait to see Wolfgang.

As they descended the stairs to the dungeons, the air around them slowly grew colder. The two guards stationed at the bottom of the staircase nodded to Bram, looking at Terrowin with curiosity but not about to stop the head mage, who far outranked them. Bram turned down a hallway to the left, the opposite direction from where he knew Wolfgang was being held. They walked for several minutes until they came to a doorway, which he unlocked and pulled open before motioning for her to go through. "Ladies first."

"Thank you so much, what was your name again? Mine is Terrowin," she introduced herself as she stepped through the doorway, peering around for Wolfgang.

Bram slipped inside after her. They had passed many empty cells on their way here, but for Bram's purposes, he wanted a place that was less public. The room was slightly more comfortable looking than a regular cell: there was an actual bed with a blanket and pillow pushed into one corner, rather than a bare straw cot, and a simple wooden table with two chairs sat in the middle of the room. Beyond that, it offered actual walls, rather than bars, lending the person inside more privacy. If someone were to guess, this seemed to be a place that a prisoner with slightly more import might be kept.
"It's nice to meet you, Terrowin," he said. "My name is Bram." He gestured to the table. "Please, sit down." With that, Bram moved toward the table, seemingly unworried to have left the door unlocked. "We're going to get to know one another very well," he said, a faint smile touching his lips.

Suddenly, alarm bells rang out in Terrowin's head. She was alone down here in a walled in cell with a man who now seemed slightly unhinged. She swallowed hard, "Where's Wolfgang? We must have missed him. I promise I'm not like him, if that what you're thinking. He's just a friend, I wanted to help him find a cure," she offered, thinking that this was some sort of attempt to extract information from her. She had no idea how truly sick the man in front of her was. She remained standing, inching back towards the door.

"I'm afraid you won't be seeing Wolfgang today. Maybe, if you're good, I'll let you see him soon," Bram said, musing at what would happen if he created a Fake Wolfgang like he had created a Fake Talion for Blythe. Perhaps Wolfgang was a tool to be used against this woman.
He ignored her explanations, as they meant little to him whether they were true or not, and watched as she began to inch toward the door. "It won't open, you know," he said casually. This was not entirely accurate. It would open, except he would intervene with his magic as soon as she tried to grasp the handle, and as a result, it would seem as if the door was locked.
"Now, sit down." This time when he spoke, there was more command to his tone, and it was obvious he was growing tired of what he would consider her disobedience.

Her lower lip quivered. She was so stupid! She had been so blinded by her fear for Wolfgang that she’d forgotten to care for herself. Swallowing hard, she moved miserably towards the chair and sat. Her posture was stiff, her eyes wary. Did he mean to take advantage of her? Her fingers curled into fists at the thought. But if that was all he wanted, she would lay there and let him have his way. Once he was finished, she believed she would be allowed to go.
“You’re a mage, aren’t you? A powerful one. You can bend reality, can you not?” She was finally thinking, trying to keep him talking and remembering now who he was. And his powers terrified her.

"Relax," Bram said, his tone conversational once more now that she had obeyed his command. He leaned back in his chair and regarded her, observing her evident discomfort. Soon, she would share in his pain, he thought, and she would hope, plead even, to sit and have a conversation with him like they were now. Then, she wouldn't be so uncomfortable; she would be grateful. Bram had no interest in taking advantage of her in the manner in which she suspected, though she wasn't to know that. What was in store for her would be much worse.
His dark eyes snapped to hers as she spoke. "I can. Does that scare you, Terrowin? Knowing that at any moment, what you believe to be real could be erased, replaced with something entirely different, and you would never know?" He could see it in her eyes, the fear, and it filled him with satisfaction.

"Yes, it does terrify me. Why are you doing this? Did I do something wrong?" she asked, her voice beginning to waver as she held back tears. Terrowin was a gentle girl who had little exposure to the real world, to the way people truly were. This was far beyond her experience and she couldn't control her emotions. She imagined that a stronger person would try to fight, but what did she have to fight against him with? She was helpless.
