Derric walked along the path, eyes glancing over various shops. He was looking for some caged animals to bargain for, some clothes, nothing in particular aside. The Gypsy stopped briefly to wait in line for some fresh fruits, his dark eyes scanning over what he should snack on.

Sasha was selling her services, as per usual. Usually she would set up at the markets in the villages, but the trade route had started to acquire booths as well, and it was easier to access travellers here. Many were wary after long journeys and she had found that they would pay well for her healing powers to bring them feelings of comfort and refreshment. The blind woman was still new to this area though, and struggled to set up her sign. Usually, she was so adept in familiar areas, but the newness of this routine was not without its hiccups. Her large wolfhound sat nearby, whining slightly as she watched Sasha wrestle with the banner.
“God damn it,” she cursed under her breath, taking a moment to tuck a blonde curl behind her ear. She wore a blue bandana dotted with white flowers, keeping most of her hair from her face. It complimented the simple blue dress she wore, with a coat of fur over for warmth.

Among the noises of the people and hustle of feet, the whine of Sasha’s wolfhound caught his ear. He turned to cast a glance at the woman and watched her struggle for a few seconds. Normally he wouldn’t care, he was not a fan of other people, but he figured offering assistance would make her companion happier. Derric walked away from the stand and over towards the blonde woman and silently lifted the banner, eyes locked on to her to gauge where and how she wanted it. He glanced down at Artemis and gave the dog a nod, thinking that Ember would put the large animal to shame. Maybe next time he came this way she would be at his side. His dark eyes searched Sasha’s face, taking in her appearance, “You are blind.” His voice was deep, gruff, yet somehow soothing. He found it interesting that Sasha’s appearance was so well put together for a blind woman, in his eyes she seemed rather innocent especially standing next to him. Unlike her he dressed in a dark green tunic complimented as well with a fur coat. Naturally he had a bow draped across his shoulders complimented with a dagger. He looked more like a hunter than a Gypsy.

Sasha scowled her trademark scowl as she felt the presence of someone else, but let him assist with the banner. When it was finished, she stepped back, crossing her arms over his chest at his comment. His voice made him sound wild. She could almost picture him. After all, she’d had her sight for years before losing it. And men who were wild were trouble. Sasha, snarky and sarcastic and cynical, was no easy target for anyone. “Yes, I’m blind. We’re you raised by wolves, and did they not teach you manners?” She turned her back on him and settled onto her stool behind her booth. She would have customers soon, she was sure.

Derric arched a brow at the woman’s slight hostility. On one hand he felt a prick of irritation, why are you upset. I helped you. On the other hand he understood why, the human nature was stubborn and independent. That was one of the things he hated, but he himself felt the same way at times. “I could have watched you struggle for another minute or two,” Derric said with a rather deadpanned face. If he had done that though he would’ve been wrong as well. Damned if you do damned if you don’t. He chuckled mentally at the thought of being raised by wolves, he would definitely be a little more social. He paused, wondering how such an innocent looking woman was completely opposite than what he presumed. “Do you need any other help while I’m here?”

“I don’t need a knight to save me.” Sasha grumbled. She was a cat with her hackles raised, and unfortunately, it was her constant state of being until someone pushed past her walls. There were few people who could. “Are you?” She asked after a moment. “A knight, I mean. You don’t sound or smell like one.” Sasha set her hand on Artemis’ head, scratching her ears.

“I am not, just a passerby,” The man said bluntly. He mused mentally, sorry to disappoint. However, it didn’t matter much, he saw a woman in need and he would stay as long as she needed. “Would you treat me differently if I were a knight in shining armor?” Not that she could see. His dark eyes moved over Artemis and he bent down, kneeling, his hand in offering to the wolfhound. He allowed the animal to sniff his hand before petting. He wondered briefly how he came off others, it could have been something he cared for but most of the Gypsy didn’t care. He was a man of nature.

“I would have more contempt for you if you were a knight.” Sasha told him just as bluntly. Hm, perhaps this man wasn’t so bad. She could appreciate people who spoke their minds and didn’t sugarcoat things. Sasha could feel Artemis straining toward the man, and took it as a good sign. “Any aches and pains I can help you with? I’m a renowned healer. Which, if you’re just passing through, you probably wouldn’t know.”

If Derric had been covered in scrapes and bruises, he wouldn’t be sure to ask for her assistance, he was able to take his damages as it came. He folded his arms over his chest and shrugged his shoulders, realizing afterwards that she couldn’t see his gestures. “How deep does your skill go?” Derric wondered if she could only heal physical aches or if it went as far as mental and emotional. Regardless he would keep her in mind if his injuries ever became too far for him to endure without aid. The Gypsy had grown used to mythical powers among others, but she wouldn’t be the first scammer he had come across if she were. It was always good to have some sort of proof.

“I can do a great many things. It depends on the patient. I can ease emotional turmoil, for a time. But that healing has to come from the person themselves,” she answered, almost sensing what he wanted to ask. Sasha had a keen intuition that way. “Do you have a name, wanderer?”

He nodded, “That’s usually how it goes isn’t it? I’ll keep you in mind if I get hurt, just don’t disappoint.” He gave the smallest chuckle, the sound clearly something almost foreign to his own throat. He focused rather intensely on her face, curious as to how she functioned so well at least from what he had seen alone aside from her wolfhound. Well at least when she was on her own, she must have had someone assisting her behind the scenes. “My name is Derric De Maere.”

“Sasha,” she introduced herself, tucking his name away for later. “What are you then, Derric, if not a knight?” She mused, trying to distract herself from the fact that he was probably puzzling over how she managed as a blind person.

A fitting name for a woman like her, at least for as much as he knew of her. “Just a wanderer. I find myself spending most of my time with the Gypsies. It helps when I need a spare coin.” Derric cast a glance around them, “Why are you out here? It seems like you’d belong in a castle with your healing abilities. Especially without sight, it would be an easier life wouldn’t it?” It made sense to him at least. Had he not been of neutral heart he could have easily taken her goods or just done away with her had there been less consequence.

She scowled in his general direction, her expression like a sudden storm. Of course, Sasha knew that people with all of their senses couldn't possibly understand that people like her could still function and be independent. They had just adapted to living without whatever it was that others took for granted. "You think I need some soft cushioned life just because I can't see?" Sasha grabbed the hilt of the dagger she kept on her person at all time, pressing it with surprising accuracy into Derric's thigh, just enough to draw a little blood. "Royal families pay me well for my services but I hate their courts and their guises. My life is my own," she snapped at him, ever defensive. Even if Derric meant no offence, it mattered little to Sasha. The blonde beauty had a sweet face, but she was marred by bitterness and a fighting spirit that rose up at even the slightest challenge.

“I think it would be more of a craving than a necessity,” Derric inhaled sharply with the unexpected sting at his thigh. It was against his wild nature but even he would have appreciated the warmth and plentiful food the courts would have provided. He pulled her closer despite the blade pressing further into his flesh, “With intuitive as strong as yours, I’m surprised you don’t see that we are in agreement. I also don’t favor the posh courts.” Derric pushed her away rather gently as to keep Artemis from snapping at him as well. He inspected his thigh, scowling slightly at now having to repair his pants.
