Nadia peeked over at him as he turned away from her and felt inexplicable shame for grieving. It was almost frightening how badly she wanted to please Alister. And at the same time, it felt good to at least punish him to some extent for his utter disregard for life. These emotions were exhausting. She needed time to think- and perhaps talk to someone less involved. Uncurling, she crawled under the covers and faced away from him, staring at the wall for what seemed like an eternity. Eventually, she couldn't stand the distance between them and inched closer until she was pressed against his back. Her eyes finally closed and she prayed for sleep.

Alister only fell asleep when Nadia pressed up against him, finally able to stop thinking.
